Survivors and supporting artists made a monument.
On Sunday 26th of October the grassy field at the Detention Centre has been redesigned as a ritual meeting place to remember death inside.
And to struggle for a life outside.
Look with us. Not at us.
Join the Protest at Schiphol and Tune In with M2M Radio, the Migrant-to-Migrant Web Radio Station of the survivors of the fire.
The Schiphol Fire that happened in the night of the 26th of October 2005 will be commemorated again three years later, at the same place and at the same time. At the memorial for the eleven dead migrants that stands at the fence of the detention centre at Schiphol Airport. Survivors and relatives of the dead are working together to create the commemoration and to be there. The United Survivors initiated this in collaboration with M2M Radio and The Blue House.
On Saturday October 25 2008 the Third Comemmoration of the Schiphol Fire will start in the Blue House when the survivors and relatives of the deceased will be together in private session. The next day, Sunday 26th, we will move towards the Schiphol Airport detention centre to honour the dead. We will show the world that
We are here, to make a life again, together as one.

Alle mensen zijn migranten, of ze het nu leuk vinden of niet.
En alle migranten zijn mensen, of je het nu leuk vind of niet.
En we zijn geen bananen.
Je drijft geen handel met mensen.
Handel verwar je niet met behandeling.
Je zet geen mensen in de gevangenis alleen omdat
ze niet in je systeem passen.
Migratie is de toekomst.

You don’t put migrants in jail, just because they don’t fit in your system.

Elke vrijdag van 19.00 tot 22.00 uur is er open inloop in de radiostudio op de begane grond van Het Blauwe Huis. Kom langs en schuif aan. Er is muziek en alles wat je zegt kan voor en tegen je gebruikt worden. Let op: bij Radio Ruisriet kunnen onverstaanbare talen worden gesproken! De zender is vernoemd naar de nu een-na-laatste halte van tram 26: Ruisrietstraat. Riet is de oorspronkelijke bewoner van IJburg, ruis is het geluid van de wind, de leegte, de afstand.
U bent van harte welkom om de presentaties te bekijken, mee te praten, van mening te verschillen en het glas met ons te heffen.
